Series: Phryne Fisher

Melbourne, in the 1920s. Miss Fisher is rich, somewhat on the outs with her family, beautiful, feminist, sexually active, and adventurous (she drives and even flies airplanes, and works as a private investigator).

There's a TV series based on these, which is pretty but much toned down from the books and just not as interesting.
